Step into the fossil footprints of history: a tantalizing snapshot of humankind’s earliest days. This track, 100 km from Oldupai & Laetoli Gorge (Cradle of Humankind), is thought to have been left in the ash-rich mud 120,000 years ago. Preserved in cracked crust, another flow of debris then buried the footprints. Local villager Kongo Sakkae found some of the prints prior to 2006, but the site didn’t reach scientists’ attention until 2008.
